About us

Newcastle Tenants Federation was founded as an unincorporated association representing the interests of social housing tenants. It has evolved into an independent voluntary organisation, which represents the interests of residents of all tenures, as well as owner occupiers.

The Federation has had a strategic funding relationship with Newcastle City Council since 1985, through the Housing Revenue Account (the Rent Account). A three year Service Level Agreement is now in place, which has given the organisation financial stability and ensured that council tenants are at the heart of the decision making processes regarding their homes.

We have an office and resource base in central Newcastle and currently employ a staff team of two full time and one part time worker.

Our aims are to:

  • Prevent and relieve deprivation and improve housing conditions and living environments

  • Create a strong, citywide infrastructure of tenants and residents groups

  • Create opportunities for tenants to influence policy and service delivery

  • Provide high quality value for money services to members and stakeholders

  • Provide capacity building and training opportunities to tenants and residents to increase their effectiveness in influencing policy and service delivery

  • Provide information and advice to tenants and residents across the city

  • Build upon our governance and organisational systems to ensure the Federation's ongoing strength and viability

  • Build the Federation's financial stability and sustainability
